Gunfire by Kuki militants sparks outrage; UPF calls it a ‘game plan’ by Indian Government

Imphal March 1,2025:The firing by Kuki militants at Kongba Maru Laipham, despite heavy security presence, has raised serious concerns among the public. The absence of any decisive action against the militants has led to suspicions that the incident is part of a
larger strategy by the Indian government, said L. Jadumani,
advisor of the United Peoples
Front, Manipur (UPF).Addressing a protest held at Nongmeibung, jointly organized by the Nongmeibung
Women’s Development Meira
Paibi Association, Koloi Leima
Lai Committee, and UPF,Jadumani stated that while Meeteis in the capital remain under strict surveillance, Kuki
militants continue to operate
freely. He alleged that the por￾trayal of Meeteis as aggres￾sors is misleading, and the real perpetrators of violence are Kuki terrorist groups targeting
civilians. However, he expressed concern over the continued silence of both the Central government and the
Manipur Governor on the issue.
The protest follows another disturbing incident where Kuki militants opened
fire near a religious gathering
at Kongba Maru Laiphamlen,
triggering panic and uncertainty among the attendees.Despite repeated instances of violence, the Indian government has not taken any substantial action to curb the activities of the armed groups, protesters claimed.Jadumani further alleged
that the systematic restriction of Meeteis while allowing Kuki militants to move freely indicates a deeper “game plan” by the Indian establishment,
aimed at destabilizing Manipur.
In response to the escalating situation, local women’s groups announced plans for a ritual offering, which will see
the participation of mothers and elderly women, as a form of protest against the ongoing violence.During the protest, UPF President Nongthombam
Rupachandra also condemned the repeated attacks and criticized the authorities for their inaction. The protesters have urged the public to remain vigilant and actively voice their concerns as Manipur faces an uncertain future amidst escalating violence.
