Malda Railway Division takes active steps for safety and track development at Malda Town Station

A media interaction program was organized at Malda Town Station today at the initiative of Malda Division of Eastern Railway with the aim of improving the safety and infrastructure of rail movement. Through this program, important safety infrastructure works underway at the station were highlighted.

Under the leadership of the Divisional Railway Manager of Malda Division Shri Manish Kumar Gupta, several steps have been taken to make the track of Malda Town Station stronger and safer. In this context, Senior Divisional Engineer-I Shri Champakjyoti Rajvanshi and Senior Section Engineer/P. Way/Malda Shri Amar Kumar Sarkar directly interacted with the media representatives and gave details about the steps taken.

The use of Ultrasonic Flow Detection (USFD) technology was highlighted as a special technical aspect in this event. Through this non-destructive testing method, it is possible to detect hidden defects in the internal defects of the rail line, welds, switch expansion joints (SEJ) and turnouts in advance, which plays an important role in preventing accidents.

Currently, the Ultrasonic Flow Detection (USFD) system has been further strengthened in Malda Division. With the help of this technology, hidden defects in the track are being identified in advance and removed. As a result, the chances of rail cracks and derailments have been significantly reduced.

For the purpose of testing and monitoring, 6 separate USFD testing teams have been formed in Malda Division, which are led by experienced supervisors. These teams are scanning the track daily with the help of modern equipment.

As a result of this strong step—18 IMR (Immediate Removal) defects have been identified and repaired immediately.

1479 DFWO/OBS (Defects Found With Observation) have been identified and kept under proper surveillance.

The event also highlighted other infrastructural developments such as deep screening of loop lines, strengthening of points and crossings, installation of Thick Web Switch (TWS) etc., which are suita qable for high speed train operations and are helping in increasing track stability.
