Centre Orders Nationwide Civil Defence Drills Amid India-Pakistan Tensions; NCW Condemns Online Abuse of Martyr’s Widow

Amidst heightened India-Pakistan tensions post the Pahalgam terror attack, the Centre has instructed several states to conduct security war mock drills on Wednesday, May 7th, focusing on “effective civil defence.”

These drills will include activating air raid sirens, training civilians in self-protection, practicing blackouts, camouflaging vital installations, and rehearsing evacuation plans. This move follows Prime Minister Modi’s high-level meetings regarding potential countermeasures to the attack that killed 26 civilians.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has stepped in to condemn the online harassment of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal’s widow, Himanshi Narwal, following her statement. The NCW emphasized that criticizing a woman based on her ideology or personal life is unacceptable, even amidst national grief over the Pahalgam incident, stressing the need for respectful discourse.
