Breaking News: Air India Flight Crashes After Takeoff in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, June 12, 2025 — An Air India Boeing 787 carrying 242 people crashed into a residential area near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport shortly after takeoff. The London-bound flight AI171 lost contact at just 625 feet and struck a doctors' hostel at B.J. Medical College, sparking a massive fire.

At least 244 people are believed dead in accident involving a Boeing 787, with rescue operations still underway. Among the passengers were 169 Indians and several foreign nationals. Flight operations at the airport have been suspended.

Prime Minister Modi called the tragedy “heartbreaking beyond words.” An investigation involving DGCA, Boeing, and Indian authorities is ongoing.

This is the first-ever fatal crash of a Boeing 787 and Air India’s most serious incident in decades.
