Sangrur ( Navjot Joshi ) Today, on 27/06/2025, a meeting of the Punjabi University Bachao Morcha was held to discuss the prevailing issues concerning Punjabi University. The meeting took place on the university campus and was attended by leaders of various teachers’, employees’, students’, and pensioners’ organizations. The leaders of the Morcha stated that the administrative decision—based on a court order to ban protests and demonstrations within 300 meters of the university is strongly opposed by the Morcha. They condemned this move and demanded that the administration immediately revoke the decision. They emphasized that peaceful protests regarding rightful demands are a constitutional right of every group. They asserted that the university is an autonomous institution and should not be turned into a police outpost. The interference of the police must end, and various university groups should not be intimidated or harassed through police pressure. The leaders also pointed out that due to the incompetence of the university administration, over 600 cases are currently ongoing in various courts, and the university is bearing the cost of these legal proceedings, which has resulted from administrative failures. Meanwhile, the legitimate demands of all sections within the university remain unaddressed. The Morcha expressed full support for the demands of the contract teachers currently sitting on protest and demanded that the university immediately resolve the genuine demands of all stakeholders. It was also decided by the Morcha that no compromise will be allowed on the autonomy of the university.
