86-Year-Old Mr. Zothanga Launches Indefinite Hunger Strike Demanding AAY Ration

Ashapara Newly Resettlement Village, 21 July 2025 —

Mr. Zothanga, aged 86, son of Late Bolia, a resident of Ashapara Newly Resettlement Village, has launched an indefinite hunger strike starting from 16th July 2025, demanding the provision of Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration benefits.

According to local sources, Mr. Zothanga has vowed not to end his hunger strike until his demand is met. Despite his advanced age and fragile health, he has taken this bold step as a form of non-violent protest, highlighting the severe need for support among the elderly in resettled tribal communities.

The AAY scheme is specifically aimed at supporting the "poorest of the poor" by providing highly subsidized food grains. Community members and local leaders have expressed concern over the administration’s delay in addressing such genuine and critical needs of vulnerable individuals like Mr. Zothanga.

The local administration is yet to make an official response regarding the matter. Meanwhile, villagers are appealing for immediate intervention to safeguard the health and rights of Mr. Zothanga.
