A crack in the pillar has led to the indefinite closure of the Kavi Subhash metro station, as decided by metro authorities. As a result, metro services will now run only up to Shahid Khudiram station. Commuters fear severe inconvenience. The metro is considered the lifeline of Kolkata. Every day, lakhs of people commute via the metro. Like any other day, the metro stations were packed with commuters on Monday afternoon. Around 1 PM, a metro headed towards Kavi Subhash came to a halt at Shahid Khudiram and didn’t move any further. Even after a long wait, services did not resume. Eventually, services began between Dakshineswar and Shahid Khudiram in both directions, but passengers were being offloaded at Shahid Khudiram. Empty rakes were being sent onward to Kavi Subhash. After a long silence, the metro authorities finally broke their silence. It was revealed that due to heavy rainfall, a crack had developed in one of the pillars of the Kavi Subhash metro station. As a result, continuing services was deemed unsafe. Consequently, the authorities have decided to shut down the Kavi Subhash station indefinitely. Currently, the metro will operate between Shahid Khudiram and Dakshineswar only. However, there is no clear information from the authorities on how long repairs will take or when services to Kavi Subhash will resume.
