
Shwapnil Shojib, Recognized as the Prince of Rabindra Sangeet, Showcases Bangladesh at the United Nations
In a proud moment for Bangladesh, renowned singer Shwapnil Shojib has become the first celebrity singer from the country to address the United Nations’ 19th International Youth for Human Rights Summit, held at the UN Headquarters in New York. Organized by United for Human Rights and hosted by the Permanent Mission of Timor-Leste, the global summit brought together world leaders, educators, economists, artists, and activists from dozens of countries. Shwapnil’s invitation to speak marked a rare and meaningful convergence of Bangladeshi music, culture, and humanitarian values on a United Nations platform.The 2025 theme, “Education for Peace,” In his speech, Shwapnil drew upon the timeless philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore, invoking ideals of compassion, justice, and soulful education that shapes both heart and mind. He says, “To be invited to speak at the United Nations on education and peace, inspired by the vision of Rabindranath Tagore, is deeply humbling, As an artist and educator, I believe culture is not just performance, it’s a responsibility. I am proud to represent Bangladesh and use my voice not just in song, but in service of humanity."
Shwapnil was also recognized at the summit for his philanthropic work in Dhaka, where he runs a foundation that offers free arts and music education to underprivileged children, nurturing creativity and dignity among the underserved.
Shwapnil has also honored in several international honors. In 2024, he was formally recognized by the New York State Senate, and in 2025, received a special tribute from the Mayor and Council of Somerset County, New Jersey, for his cultural contributions abroad. He remains one of the leading voices of Tagore’s music internationally, with a career that bridges both classical traditions and contemporary platforms.
