Surrogacy racket spanned Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam; nationwide probe launched

Dr Namratha, the main accused in a surrogacy scam, allegedly resumed illegal fertility operations despite pending cases. Clinics in three cities lured couples with false promises. Police believe a deeper investigation may uncover a larger child trafficking network

Hyderabad: A local court on Thursday granted five-day police custody of Dr Pachipala Namrata, the prime accused in a surrogacy scam case. She was arrested along with several members of her staff for allegedly orchestrating a racket involving fake surrogacy procedures. The case came to light after a couple discovered that DNA tests did not match them with the child they were given by the IVF clinic, which had claimed the baby was conceived through surrogacy using the couple’s own genetic material.
