Farmers Raise Alarm Over Fertilizer Shortage and Unfair Distribution by IFFCO
A farmers’ meeting was convened today in Nowshera under the leadership of Mechanised Farmer Producer Company Ltd., where local farmers expressed serious concerns over the continued non-availability of fertilizers during peak agricultural season.
Farmers alleged that IFFCO has been indulging in discriminatory distribution practices, supplying fertilizers preferentially to selected wholesalers and traders in Jammu, while neglecting the legitimate wholesale license holders in Nowshera. Despite having a valid wholesale fertilizer license, Mechanised Farmer Producer Company has repeatedly been denied supply without any official explanation from IFFCO.
The matter had earlier been brought to the attention of the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India, which had issued directions to the Director of Agriculture, Jammu, to ensure fertilizer supply to all legitimate dealers. However, IFFCO has failed to comply with these instructions.
In response, the farming community has decided to submit a formal representation to the Director of Agriculture, Jammu. If the issue is not resolved, they intend to escalate the matter to senior authorities, including the Hon’ble Home Minister, to seek justice and fair treatment.
The farmers are demanding an end to favoritism and insist on the equitable supply of fertilizers to all licensed wholesalers, ensuring timely access for retailers and farmers alike.
