Jamshedpur's Durga Puja festivities are threatened by rain clouds.
Due to the resurgence of monsoon activity throughout the state, the weather department has forecast periods of rain during the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations in Jharkhand. Rainfall is likely to continue during the festival time, according to Ranchi Meteorological Center Director Abhishek Anand.
Two new low-pressure regions are anticipated to form over the Bay of Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which could have an impact on the weather in Jharkhand. After September 15, a new system is anticipated to form, bringing with it light to heavy rain during the Puja. Additionally, the monsoon, which often ends earlier, is probably going to last until October 15 of this year.
Even though August's rainfall was below average (only 251.5 mm compared to 290.6 mm, or a 13%), the IMD anticipates better showers in September. "The monthly average of 212.3 mm will be easily met if we have three or four days of good rain," officials stated.
Right now, a system that is forming over the central and northern Bay of Bengal is probably going to pass through Odisha and affect Jharkhand. Therefore, from September 2 to 5, cloudy skies and sporadic light to moderate rainfall are anticipated, with the southern and central districts likely to see heavy showers on September 2. During this time, winds may also reach 30 to 40 kmph.
Rainfall in September has varied significantly during the last five years in Jharkhand, ranging from a low of 118.1 mm in 2020 (44% shortfall) to a high of 333.1 mm in 2024 (57% excess). However, compared to a peak of 598.2 mm in 2022, this August's 251.5 mm was the lowest for the month in the previous five years.
