When Government Fails, Youths Step Up — Pothole Repair at Koraput town

Koraput | Sep 25, 2025 - A group of young social workers on wednesday took matters into their own hands today to repair potholes at the main traffic square in Koraput town after authorities failed to address the issue.

The craters in the middle of the national highway have become a serious hazard, especially for two-wheeler riders, where even slight negligence could result in accidents. Despite repeated complaints, the National Highway authorities have not taken adequate action, according to locals.

Around 4 PM, several youths voluntarily gathered at the traffic square and filled the potholes as part of a social initiative to prevent accidents. The main traffic square is a crucial junction where National Highway 326 and National Highway 26 meet, linking important routes to Jeypore, Sunabeda, and Rayagada.

Rupak Turuk, active worker of Odisha Pradesh Congress, said, “The government is not aware of the numerous accidents involving bike commuters within the town caused by such large potholes. Seeing this negligence, we decided to step in as a social initiative with the help of some youths of our team.”

The youth leaders stressed the need for urgent government action to repair roads and ensure the safety of commuters. They also urged authorities to treat road maintenance as a priority to prevent accidents and further inconvenience to the public.
