The Social Democratic Party of India Gujarat has filed a petition before the Hon’ble Gujarat High Court seeking the inclusion of stringent provisions in the FIR against Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Dharmendra Bhavani.
This petition follows Bhavani’s inflammatory and derogatory remarks during a public gathering held as a tribute after the unfortunate death of a student in the “Seven Day School” case. His statements contained offensive references to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the Holy Qur’an, and the Hadith, coupled with branding Muslims as “Jihadis” and the public display of swords. Such acts clearly endangered communal peace and created an atmosphere of intimidation and unrest.
SDPI is deeply concerned at the apparent double standards in law enforcement. Despite repeated attempts to lodge a proper FIR across various police stations, the authorities failed to take adequate action. Eventually, a diluted FIR was filed at Khokhra Police Station under lenient sections, such as IPC Section 299, enabling the accused to secure bail effortlessly. This stands in sharp contrast to the prompt and harsh measures employed against Mufti Salman Azhari, merely for reciting poetry. The principle of equality before the law demands that all citizens be treated alike.
By approaching the High Court, SDPI reaffirms its unwavering commitment to constitutional methods of seeking justice. We firmly believe that those who propagate hate speech and disturb communal harmony must be held fully accountable under the law.
At this juncture, SDPI appeals to the community and the broader public to maintain peace and repose faith in the judicial process. We categorically reject any form of vigilante action or unlawful retaliation. All grievances must be addressed through legal and democratic means—from local police stations to higher authorities and ultimately the judiciary. Divisive elements must not be allowed to distract society from pressing issues such as unemployment, inflation, and economic distress.
SDPI reiterates its dedication to democracy, social justice, and the protection of minority rights. We remain confident that the judiciary will deliver a just and expeditious verdict in this matter.
