Major Revelation in Journalist Rajiv Pratap’s Death Case: Murder Angle Ruled Out After Investigation
Uttarkashi police have ruled out the possibility of murder in the death of senior journalist Rajiv Pratap, associated with 'Delhi Uttarakhand Live'. Earlier, his family and acquaintances had suspected foul play due to his fearless journalism against corruption and frequent threats he had reportedly received.
Rajiv Pratap, a resident of Maneri in Uttarkashi district, was found dead under suspicious circumstances on September 18. Following detailed investigation and forensic reports, authorities concluded that he died in a road accident while driving under the influence of alcohol.
CCTV Footage and Post-Mortem Findings :
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Janak Panwar informed the media that the post-mortem confirmed the presence of alcohol in Pratap’s body at the time of death. CCTV footage also showed him heavily intoxicated and struggling to maintain balance before getting into his vehicle.
Events on the Night of September 18 :
According to the police investigation, on the evening of September 18, Pratap met his former cameraman, Manbir Kaluda, and constable Sobhan Singh at the taxi stand, where the three consumed alcohol until late night. Later, Pratap and Sobhan Singh went to a hotel for dinner. CCTV footage from around 11:00 PM showed Pratap leaving the hotel in an inebriated state, followed by Singh. Both were seen getting into the vehicle, with Pratap seated in the driver’s seat.
At 11:24 PM, Sobhan Singh spoke to Pratap over the phone. Their car was tracked via CCTV cameras at Badri Tiraha and Tekhla bridge, before it reached near Gangori bridge at 11:38 PM. However, no further footage of the car was recorded beyond this point. Singh told the police he had advised Pratap not to drive further, but the journalist insisted he would return shortly. Singh even tried to follow him on foot but lost track.
Police Conclusion :
Based on available evidence, the police believe that around 11:40 PM, Pratap’s car met with an accident near Gangori. Investigators highlighted that he had limited driving experience and was under the influence of alcohol at the time, which likely led to the mishap.
While ruling out the murder angle, police have confirmed that the investigation will continue until all aspects are thoroughly examined.
