
Civic Volunteer bagged Gold Medel in Asia Masters Athletics Championship
Naima Khatun, a female civic volunteer by profession, won the gold medal in javelin for India at the 23rd Asia Masters Athletics Championship. She won first place in the competition, defeating China, Malaysia, Iran, Russia and other countries. Naima Khatun, a resident of Kalindri Rajnagar village of Mirdadpur Panchayat, under Manikchak block, is a civic volunteer by profession. She has been working as a civic volunteer at Manikchak Police Station since 2014. The family includes an elderly and sick mother, grandfather, grandmother and sister. However, she had a special attraction towards sports since childhood. So for a few years she had been trying to become the Asian Masters Athletic Champion. However, this year Naima got her first opportunity. About six months ago, she secured first place in the state level competition held in Cooch Behar. Later, she also secured first place by participating in the international competition held in Bengaluru. After that, Naima got the opportunity to represent the country in the Asia Masters Athletic Championship. This year, the 23rd Asian Masters Athletic Championship is being held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai from November 5 to 9. A total of 22 countries, including India, have participated in this competition. There, on November 6, Naima competed in the javelin competition with 6 domestic and 13 foreign players. Then, she left everyone behind and secured first place. Two Indian throwers also secured second and third places in the competition. Regarding this, Naima Khatun said, "It has been my long-standing desire to participate in such a competition. I would not have been able to reach this place if my family and the police officers of Manikchak police station were not by my side. But there is still a long way to go. I am also preparing to go play abroad.’
