Journalists’ Bodies Condemn Attempted Abduction of Manipur Editor

Imphal, India — November 13, 2025: The All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and the Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) have issued a strong condemnation of the reported attempted abduction of Naharolgi Thoudang Editor Khoiram Loyalakpa by unidentified armed men near Mantripukhri.

In a joint statement, the organisations described the incident as a brazen assault on press freedom and a serious threat to the safety of journalists fulfilling their professional responsibilities. They warned that violence or intimidation against members of the press has no place in a democratic society and must be met with firm action.

The AMWJU and EGM have urged the Manipur Police and relevant authorities to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation, identify those responsible, and ensure that they are held accountable under the law.

Calling for calm, the groups appealed to all sections of society to reject coercion and violence as a means of addressing grievances or disputes with journalists or media outlets. “Differences must be resolved through dialogue and democratic engagement,” the statement said.

The organisations emphasized that the safety of journalists and the defense of press freedom are fundamental to maintaining transparency, accountability, and peace within society. Both AMWJU and EGM reaffirmed their commitment to uphold these democratic values and expressed solidarity with media professionals working in increasingly challenging conditions.
