Vedanta Installs 30 Water Purifiers in Koraput Schools, 3,000 Students Benefit

Koraput | Nov 26, 2025 - In a major step toward improving student health and hygiene, Vedanta Aluminium has installed 30 water purification units across various schools in Kodingamali under Koraput district. The initiative, implemented under the company’s flagship Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) program, will benefit more than 3,000 schoolchildren by providing them access to clean and safe drinking water.

The first installation was inaugurated at U.N. Raju Girls’ High School, where Hon’ble Laxmipur MLA Shri Pabitra Saunta graced the event. Speaking on the occasion, he highlighted that reliable access to potable water remains a pressing concern in several schools across the region. “Such initiatives play a crucial role in ensuring students’ health and overall well-being,” he said, appreciating Vedanta Aluminium for addressing this essential need.

The schools have been equipped with Tata Swach Community Water Purifiers featuring advanced Ultra Hollow Fibre (UHF) ultrafiltration technology. These units can eliminate viruses, bacteria, and cysts while preserving natural minerals and taste. Designed to operate entirely on gravity without requiring electricity, they are especially suitable for rural and remote regions with inconsistent power supply. Their multi-stage filtration effectively removes iron, sediments, chlorine, and other impurities, ensuring a steady supply of safe drinking water for students.

Commenting on the initiative, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, CEO of Vedanta Alumina Business, said, “Our efforts align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 on clean water and sanitation. Enhancing water infrastructure in schools helps create healthier learning ecosystems where students can remain focused, confident, and ready to excel.”

Reaffirming local support, MLA Pabitra Saunta added, “Providing clean drinking water across 30 schools addresses a vital requirement. These units will help children remain healthy and energised, contributing to a more supportive environment for learning.”

Through its WASH program, Vedanta Aluminium continues to strengthen school infrastructure across rural Odisha, fostering safer, healthier, and more resilient educational environments for thousands of students.
