Eleven Girl Students Hospitalised After Suspected Food Poisoning at Koraput Science College

Koraput | Nov 26, 2025 - A suspected case of food poisoning created panic at Koraput Science College on Wednesday afternoon, leading to the hospitalisation of eleven girl students at Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital, Koraput.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m., when students began complaining of sudden stomach pain and chest discomfort shortly after consuming plain pulao served as breakfast in the college hostel. The institution, a private +2 science college located on Koraput–Kechela Road, immediately alerted the administration as more students fell ill one after another.

College authorities acted swiftly and shifted all the affected students to Koraput SLN Medical College, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Medical staff have been monitoring their condition, and preliminary observations suggest food contamination as the likely cause.

Siddharth Pani, Principal of Koraput Science College, said that the college administration responded promptly to ensure the safety of the students. He added that necessary steps were being taken to determine the exact cause of the food poisoning and to prevent such incidents in the future.

The incident has raised concerns among parents and local residents regarding food quality and hygiene at educational institutions, prompting calls for stricter monitoring and regular inspections of hostel kitchens.

Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed inquiry to identify lapses and fix accountability.
