Senior BJP leader and former cabinet minister Tikshn Sood issued a press statement highlighting the nationwide celebration of Constitution Day on November 26. He mentioned that both citizens and the government observed the day in their respective manners, honoring the architects of the Constitution, including Baba Sahib Bhimrao Ambedkar and Dr. Rajender Prasad. The Constitution of India was meticulously drafted under the guidance of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar by the Constitution Committee and was enacted on November 26, 1949, to govern independent India. Tikshn Sood noted that the decision to annually celebrate November 26 as Constitution Day was first implemented by the NDA government under Prime Minister Narender Modi in 2015.Sood emphasized that the BJP and Prime Minister Modi have consistently demonstrated unwavering faith in democracy and the Constitution. He recalled that upon Narendra Modi’s initial appointment as Prime Minister in 2014, he began his term by paying respects at the Parliament steps, the temple of democracy. When re-elected in 2019, the Prime Minister entered the Central Hall of Parliament holding the Constitution above his head to express profound reverence. He further elaborated on the grand observance of the 150th birth anniversary of "Vande Mataram," which is not merely a national song but a motivating anthem for millions of freedom fighters. This celebration was conducted with great respect by the BJP and the NDA government.Conversely, Sood criticized the Congress party’s approach towards the Constitution, stating that despite Rahul Gandhi being seen carrying copies of the Constitution in a manner aimed at its protection, the party has never genuinely respected it. On the 60th anniversary of the Constitution in 2010, the Congress-led government under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh neither commemorated the day nor initiated any programs to honor it.He also recalled the events of 1975 when Congress Prime Minister Indira Gandhi allegedly compromised the Constitution and democracy to retain her position. According to Sood, Congress has repeatedly amended the Constitution based on vested interests, undermining its original principles.Tikshn Sood concluded by asserting that had Congress remained in power longer, the fundamental character of the Constitution authored by Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar might have been completely eroded.
