Assam Assembly Passes 10 Key Bills with Focus on Satra Heritage

The Assam Legislative Assembly on Thursday passed a total of ten important Bills, marking a significant push towards cultural preservation and administrative reforms in the state. Among the key legislations approved was the Assam Satra Preservation and Development Bill, which aims to safeguard the centuries-old Vaishnavite monastic institutions known as satras. The new Bill envisions a dedicated commission that will oversee the protection, development and management of satra properties, ensuring they remain free from encroachment and continue to thrive as cultural and spiritual centres.

Alongside this, the Assembly cleared a range of other Bills touching various sectors including education, public services, taxation and animal welfare. These reforms are expected to strengthen governance mechanisms and support Assam’s long-term development goals. The government stated that the collective legislative effort reflects its commitment to preserving heritage while improving administrative efficiency for the people of the state.
