Labour Department takes up public awareness related to New Labour Codes, DC Ganderbal Flags Off campaign rally

Ganderbal: In a significant move to empower the local workforce, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal Jatin Kishore-IAS today flagged off a mega awareness rally from the Mini Secretariat Ganderbal.

The rally aims to educate the public, specifically the labor class, about the transformative codification of 29 central labor laws into 04 simplified Labour Codes. This initiative is a key component of an intensive 8-day public awareness programme launched by the Department of Labour.

The rally traversed through the heart of Ganderbal main town and major bus stands, utilizing public announcements and informative displays to reach daily wagers and migrant workers. The primary focus was to simplify the four new pillars of labor welfare:

The Code on Wages (2019): Guaranteeing minimum pay for all employees across every industry.

The Code on Social Security (2020): Extending ESIC, PF, and maternity benefits to gig and platform workers.

The Industrial Relations Code (2020): Streamlining dispute resolution and recognizing sole negotiating unions.

Occupational Safety, Health & Working Conditions Code (2020): Mandating appointment letters, annual health checkups, and travel allowances for interstate migrant workers.

Speaking to media at the event, the Assistant Labour Commissioner Ganderbal Ms Hafsa Qayoom emphasized that the "One Registration—One License" system would reduce bureaucratic hurdles for employers while ensuring that the rights of vulnerable groups, including casual and daily laborers, are strictly protected. She said the 8-day campaign will continue with site visits and interactive sessions to ensure that every worker in the district understands their rights under the new legal framework.

The awareness campaign was taken to the ground by labour officers Abdul Hamid, Nazir Ahmad, Amit Tickoo and the support staff of the Assistant Labour Commissioner Ganderbal.
