Eco Club Organizes Solid Waste Management Workshop in Mohali.

Mohali The Eco Club of Shivalik Institute of Education and Research successfully organized an awareness-oriented workshop on Solid Waste Management under the Environment Education Programme, supported by the Punjab State Council of Science and Technology.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Principal Dr. Jyoti Soni and coordinated by Eco Club Incharge Dr. Goggi Gupta. The resource persons, Dr. N. K. Jhingan (Secretary) and Dr. Ravinder Nath (Treasurer) from the Environment Society of India, delivered insightful sessions on waste segregation at source, reduction of single-use plastic, composting of wet waste, recycling, and scientific disposal of dry waste. They emphasized the importance of responsible waste management and motivated participants to adopt sustainable practices in daily life.

To make the programme interactive and engaging, various competitions were organized under the theme “Eco Mind – Sustainable Future.”

In the Quiz Competition, Anshika and Jashan secured 1st position, followed by Aman Chauhan and Pooja Kumari in 2nd place.

In the Declamation Competition (covering themes such as Plastic Pollution, Biodiversity Loss, Carbon Footprint, and Smart Green Cities), Aman and Ishitij secured 1st position, while Urmila and Anju Doel stood 2nd.

In the Poster Making Competition (themes included Say No to Single-Use Plastic, Waste to Worth, and Sustainable Lifestyle), Jasleen and Sarabjeet secured 1st place, while Nikita and Ishjot Kaur secured 2nd place.

The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, residents, and volunteers, who actively engaged in discussions and shared practical ideas for managing household and community waste effectively. The workshop concluded with a prize distribution ceremony and a strong message reinforcing the institution’s and the Society’s commitment towards building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Mohali.
