Life sentence to Kashmiri separatist Aasiya Andrabi
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in New Delhi on Tuesday sentenced Kashmiri separatist Aasiya Andrabi to life imprisonment and her two associates, Sofi Fehmida and Nahida Nasreen, to 30 years in jail in a terror case filed by the NIA.
Andrabi is reportedly the leader of the women's pro-separatist organization Dukhtaran-e-Millat. Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Chander Jit Singh handed down the sentences to the three convicted individuals for various offenses proven against them.
Aasiya Andrabi received a life sentence for the offense of Terror Conspiracy under section 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and criminal Conspiracy under section 120 B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). She was also sentenced to life imprisonment for the offense of Conspiracy for waging war against India under section 121 A IPC. Additionally, she received a 10-year imprisonment sentence for the offense of being a member of or associated with a terror organization under section 38 and for the offense of supporting a terror organization under section 39 of UAPA.
