Circle of influence

Do you wake up every morning to the noise of the news, the glitz of social media, outcries over inflation, political debates, and those life grievances that you have been repeating for years?
And then, by evening, do you find yourself thinking:
"Nothing has changed in my life."
The reason for this is likely that most of your energy is being wasted in the **"Circle of Concern,"** and you have forgotten the **"Circle of Influence"**—the circle of your own control.
Let me explain what this is: this is the philosophy of one of the greatest gurus of self-help, **Stephen Covey**, which he presented in his book *The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People*. According to Stephen Covey, these are the two circles that can transform the map of our lives. He suggests our lives consist of two types of circles:
### 1. Circle of Concern (The Circle of Worry and Helplessness)
This is the circle where we only worry and feel anxious, but nothing is within our control.
**For example:**
* How is the government functioning?
* Where have the dollar rates and inflation reached?
* Why are wars happening in the world?
* How are people living their lives on social media?
* What do our relatives or friends think?
These are all things on which no matter how much time we spend, how much anger we express, or how many comments we make, we cannot exert any influence.
### 2. Circle of Influence (The Circle of Control and Impact)
This is the circle where our power, our influence, and our real transformation are hidden.
**For example:**
* Am I learning something new every day?
* How well am I taking care of my health?
* What am I teaching my children?
* How can I improve my relationships?
* How much time am I wasting on social media, and how can I make it productive?
These are all tasks within our control, and if we focus on them, our lives can change.
### Why do most people stay trapped in the Circle of Concern?
We say every day: "The country is in bad shape."
But we never emphasize improving our own skills, knowledge, or character.
We say: "Jobs aren't available here."
But we never try to learn a freelancing skill or new technology.
We complain: "Politicians are thieves."
But have we ever taken a step toward honesty and ethics within our own community?
We feel jealous of others' successes, yet we do not celebrate our own small victories.
**There is one reality that is often ignored in all of this:**
> "The quality of your life depends on where you place your attention: in the Circle of Concern or the Circle of Influence."
>
People who only keep complaining feel helpless. These are all signs that we are entangled in the Circle of Concern and neglecting the Circle of Influence. Conversely, those who work within their Circle of Influence bring positive change not only to their own lives but also to the lives of others.
**When you work in the Circle of Influence:**
* Your self-confidence increases.
* Your relationships improve.
* Your decisions become stronger.
* And most importantly: the control of your life is in your hands.
**When you stay only in the Circle of Concern:**
* You perceive yourself as a victim.
* Your focus remains scattered.
* You fall prey to anger, jealousy, and disappointment.
* And the result? Your life remains exactly where it was.
### How to Escape the Trap
If you are imprisoned in the Circle of Concern, you must adopt one principle to get out:
> **"The more you invest your energy in things within your control, the larger your Circle of Influence will grow. The more you remain stuck in worry, the smaller your Circle of Influence will become."**
>
If you truly want to improve your life, start these few things from today:
1. **Reduce** time spent on news and social media.
2. **Learn** something new every day—even if it's just reading one page or learning one new fact.
3. **Focus** on your health, relationships, and behavior.
4. **Help others.** This expands your Circle of Influence.
5. **Ask yourself daily:** "What improvement can I bring today within my Circle of Influence?"
**Remember:**
It is easy to lose your focus in the noise of the world. But the secret of life is to leave the noise behind and start working within your circle of power. Even small steps bring big changes over time.
**Your control is in your hands. It’s just a matter of making the decision.**
