Amar Singh College Orders Probe After Student Harassment Allegations

Srinagar: Authorities at Amar Singh College have initiated an inquiry following a student protest concerning alleged verbal harassment by a senior faculty member of the Department of Media Studies. Principal Prof. Aijaz Ahmed Hakak stated the incident occurred during the afternoon session and that students gathered to demonstrate after a female student raised concerns about harassment.

The college administration promptly responded by taking the student's statement and commencing preliminary action. The accused faculty member has been relieved of departmental duties pending investigation, with a senior faculty member temporarily overseeing the department. Prof. Hakak assured that the proctorial committee will conduct a thorough investigation and submit a fact-based report to the Higher Education Department. The principal also noted that institutional mechanisms like the Internal Complaints Committee and complaint boxes are in place to address harassment complaints, and that the students' concerns have been pacified with no ongoing law and order issues on campus.
