Story and Background: A Tragedy of Unspoken Love
The story of 'Shiuli' is set against the backdrop of a quiet, remote village in Purulia. The core theme of the film centers around "unrequited love and silent sacrifice."
Shibu, Shiuli, and Trina are three childhood friends from the village. Over time, Shibu and Shiuli fall in love with each other, while Trina buries her deep love for Shibu in her own heart. Overcoming various social barriers, Shibu and Shiuli eventually get married, but Shiuli is tragically lost forever in a fatal accident.
Shibu survives, carrying the deep psychological trauma and agony of losing his beloved. The director has realistically portrayed how, in today's modern digital age, even a person's deeply personal tragedy is reduced to mere content or a mockery on social media. Ultimately, carrying a heart full of pain and a barrage of unspoken memories, Shibu chooses a tragic end. The entire story is primarily presented on screen through Trina's flashbacks and perspective.
Cinematography and Music
In line with director Babai Sen’s vision, the film captures an incredibly beautiful and realistic image of rural Bengal. While the first half of the film blends earthy tones, green nature, and golden sunshine, it transitions into gray and bluish melancholic hues following the tragedy.
The film features a total of 6 songs, 5 of which are used in the movie, while 1 will be released as a separate album track. Apart from Kolkata, the film was shot over a rigorous 42 days across scenic locations in the Ayodhya Hills, Ghatshila, Burdwan, Bolpur, and Mumbai.
Message from the Production House:
Following the successful conclusion of the trailer launch, the filmmakers have requested the audience to watch this emotionally charged and realistic film in theaters. 'Shiuli' is set to hit the big screens on June 19. Now, it remains to be seen how deeply this story of heartbreak touches the hearts of the audience.
